ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 Qualifiers: Ireland announces 15-member squad, Stephen Doheny is absent

Irish Cricket announced the 15 player squad for the upcoming tournament ICC Men’s Cricket Championship 2023 Qualifiers in Zimbabwe. The Qualifier event will see 10 teams compete for two places in ICC Men’s Cricket Championship 2023 – qualifying will be held in Zimbabwe from June 18 to July 9, 2023.

“We are entering a couple of important months and we are looking at what personnel we need from a tactical point of view, who are in form and the composition of the squad is suitable for the conditions that we have. may have to face. For example, in the later stages of the tournament we are likely to be playing on used turf, so that’s when we see the value of a Ben White come to the fore.” Andrew White, National Men’s Selection, said.

“But before we look too far ahead, we have to get off to a good start and we’ve assembled what we think is our best squad to meet that challenge. With an overall attack by Adair, Little, Young, McCarthy, Hume and Camppher, we felt we were heading towards our best attack yet again, while PJ Moor’s experience in conditions of Zimbabwe and his versatile hitting anywhere from 1 to 7 gives us great shielding,” he say.

“Unfortunately, tough decisions had to be made and Stephen Doheny missed out on this trip. Stephen is a player we admire and want to continue to invest in, but we think now is the right time for him to take a step back and work on some technical aspects of the game. his at the domestic level,” he added.

“Qualifying events are sometimes fierce, fierce competitions and a balance between talent, form and experience is essential. We believe we have achieved that and I know that Ireland’s supporters will be right behind the players and staff in their quest to qualify for the World Cup.” he added.

The 10 teams participating in the qualifying round were divided into two groups of five teams:

Group A:

• Zimbabwe
• West Indies
• Netherlands
• Nepal
• USA

Group B:

• Sri Lanka
• Ireland
• Scotland
• oman
• United Arab Emirates

Each side will play against the other teams in their group once with the top three teams in each group advancing to the Super Six stage. In the Super Six, they will play against teams they didn’t meet in the group stage.

All points won in the group stage will carry over to the Super Six stage except for points won against teams that did not make it to the Super Six stage. The top two teams after the Super Six stage will compete in the final and both will advance to the 2023 ICC Men’s Cricket World Championship.

For the first time at this tournament, DRS will be used for all matches from the Super Six stage onwards.

Qualifiers are the culmination of four years of tough competition bringing together the bottom five teams from CWC Men’s Super League ICCthree automatic qualifiers from CWC League 2 Men ICC and two teams have won the right to participate from ICC Men’s CWC Qualifier Play-off.
