Rohit Sharma had feared injury ahead of his tour of South Africa when India’s opener was touched by his hand during Monday’s training session. PTI news agency reports that Gujarat’s opener Priyank Panchal has been called in to cover the three-match series in South Africa. Rohit was elected as India’s white ball captain and elevated to Test vice-captain on 8 December. India is expected to play three Tests and multiple ODIs in South Africa. The tour begins with the First Test on December 26.
Rohit was rested in the Test series two games against New Zealand, which India 1-0. The right winger was back for the South Africa tour as the name pickers for the team last week. Rohit replaced Ajinkya Rahane as India’s vice-captain in red cricket. However, the second man managed to keep his place at the side.
Rohit’s injury is likely to keep the Indian side on its toes as another opener, Shubman Gill, has been ruled out of the South Africa tour due to injury.
