IU Health Bloomington celebrates Arbor Day
IU Health Leader Bloomington and representatives from Indiana University came together at the Indiana University Regional Academic Medical Center on Friday, April 28, to celebrate National Tree Planting Day with tree planting.
Brian Shockney, IU Health South Central Region President said:
“On this Arbor Day, we continue to dedicate ourselves to being a positive force for our environment, which has an impact on the health of our communities. Environmental conservation and education is essential, and we are proud to join the Arbor Day Foundation in an effort to encourage healthcare providers, patients, staff and neighbors to enjoy the benefits of the environment. benefits of a healthier lifestyle through experiences with nature.
This is just one way we are making Indiana a healthier state.”
The event culminated with the planting of our state tree, Tulip Poplar, Wisteria tulipifera, “The City of Emeralds.” This plant is native to southern Indiana with medium-sized, fast-growing yellow flowers and can reach 100′ in height.
Jim Laughlin, MD, and Alan Biggs from IU Health, and Seth Debro and Tristan Johnson, from Indiana University supported the planting by placing the first shovels of soil.
