In his opening monologue on Monday night, Jimmy Kimmel cheered President Joe Biden on for caught on a hot microphone call Fox News’ White House Correspondent Peter Doocy a “stupid bastard.”
“There was an old Malarkey, we wondered where it was!” the late night host exclaimed with a smile.
But then on the show, his guest Jake Tapper had a very different reaction.
When Kimmel asked Tapper if his life would be “boring” with Donald Trump no longer president, the CNN host replied: “No, the incumbent president today just called someone a jerk. stupid”.
“That reporter, Peter Doocy, is he some stupid asshole?” Kimmel asked.
Tapper replied, “I don’t think any president should call any journalist a stupid asshole,” Tapper replied. “And to be fair to Peter Doocy, the question is quite implausible.” Doocy’s question concerns whether rising inflation becomes a political responsibility for the president.
“Wait a minute,” Kimmel pushed back, “Fox News says you are on Team Biden and you are the mouthpiece of the Democratic Party and here you are defending Peter Doocy, who as far as I can tell, is the What a stupid son of a bitch.”
Unmoved, Tapper told Kimmel, “I don’t agree with that. And I would say, the standard of decency has nothing to do with whether you like people who are mistreated. It is only related to standards. And yes, I realize that Peter’s channel would probably never be so protective of me, but it is. “
Finally, after Tapper noted that Biden was call Doocy directly to apologize after the incident, Kimmel joked, “I’m sure Trump did that.”
Tapper laughed, replying, “He brought the map to our house.”
