Tyson, 55, beat Francis in the second round twenty-two years ago in January 2000 in Manchester, England. Mike ‘iron’ dropped Francis twice in the first inning and one last time in the second before the referee halted play.
Tyson wasn’t at his peak when he beat Francis in 2000, as he was beaten twice by Evander Holyfield and stopped by Buster Douglas at that point in his career. That said, Tyson still had more than enough in the tank to destroy Francis in two innings in front of a crowd at the MEN Arena in Manchester, England, on January 29, 2000.
There would be a lot of interest from British boxing fans about the Tyson vs Francis rematch right now if it happened. Given Francis’ recent incident at BoxPark, it will be time for Tyson to take on him in 2022.
“I would say we can have a rematch,” Francis continued about his desire to fight Tyson. “I don’t know if anyone will watch it, but I’ll say, yes.”
Francis would be a better match for Tyson than an exhibition match with YouTuber Logan Paul or his brother Jake. If Tyson does rematch, boxing fans will love to see him face off against a real boxer, not a YouTube influencer.
“Obviously, people name Jake Paul or someone else [Logan] Paul or whatever, and it was a big fight blah blah blah, But they’re not in my category,” said Francis of the famous YouTubers who turned to boxing for money.
It can be doubted that Logan and Jake Paul will choose to fight Julius Francis because he is not well known among US boxing fans, and they will likely lose if he doesn’t take it easy on them.
Logan recently fought Floyd Mayweather Jr in an exploration bout and it looked fake, as if ‘Money’ was in the first gear for the entire fight.
