Kenya’s Supreme Court upholds Ruto’s win in presidential election | Elections News
The ruling was made by Martha Koome, president of the seven-member Supreme Court, on Monday.
Kenya’s Supreme Court upheld former Vice President William Ruto’s victory in the August 9 presidential election, after ruling on several petitions by Mr. Raila’s closest challenger. Odinga.
The unanimous decision was made by Martha Koome, the chair of the seven-member court, on Monday.
“We declare the election of the president-elect to be valid,” she said.
On August 15, Ruto was declared the winner of the ballot by Wafula Chebukati, head of the Independent Elections and Boundary Commission (IEBC), with 50.4% of the vote versus 48.8%. by Odinga.
In a dramatic split shortly before the announcement of the results, four of the seven commissioners rejected the results.
But Koome said Monday that “other than they allege the eleven-hour verification process … the four commissioners have not presented any evidence that the election was compromised.”
