Kikura Sho Recording for Deep Impact’s Ask Victor More
Despite going through a losing streak of three races, Ask more Victor (Jpn) (Deep Impact {Jpn}) turned the tables on Sunday with Hanshin’s win at G1 Kikura Sho (Japanese St, Leger), the final in Japan’s Triple Crown. Having installed the 4-1 second pick, Ask Victor More broke cautiously and settled for some lengths behind the pacesetter Seiun Hades (Jpn) (Silver State), who rolled over the first 1,000 meters in: 58.7 seconds. Continuing to survey the first runner from second without feeling any pressure, Ask Victor More closed as the leader crossed the 800 meter pole and quickly overtook the leader, leading the rest by about four section of the road. The only threat comes from Boldog Hos (Jpn) (Screen Hero {Jpn}) and Justin’s Palace (Jpn) (Deep Impact {Jpn}), who rushed mid-game towards the end of the game, however, Ask Victor More was able to keep the win by nose in record time.
“I thought a lot about how I should ride to give the foal a good result and I am relieved that it did well,” said winning rider Hironobu Tanabe. “Although, for him we will face even tougher competition in the future, I feel that he is getting stronger in every race and hopefully we have can continue with good results.”
The winner of his first two games started this term, including G2 Hochi Hai Yayoi Sho Kinen in March, where he finished fifth and third in the next two at the Group 1 level – the Aor. 17 Satsuki Sho and Tokyo Yushun May 29 (Derby Japan). In his latest warm-up, the bay comes second closest to Gaia Force (Jpn) in G2 Asahi Hai Kinen at Nakayama on September 19.
