LACHAISE (r, 2, Oscar Performance– Rumor Exclusive {MSP, $140,50}, according to Exclusive Quality), the 5-2 favorite for Thursday’s start, came close to the front and settled three widths in a third of the length on Deliver pacesetter (Goldencents). Satisfied to let the top pair go on, Lachaise stepped back a little and raced two laps around the far corner. Starting a rally midway through the first leg, he found himself with three leads at the top of the lane. Under a heavy left hit, he dueled Provision in the final sixteenth match before finally knocking his opponent out and going clear of the line to win 1 1/4 of the length. A brief investigation by the manager did not change the order of the finish and the score gave his fifth son (by Kitten’s Joy) his fifth individual winner.
