“Section 144 applies here and any person, no matter what religion or community he belongs to – if he uses social media to spread rumors or incite religious passions, we will take very severe action against such people,” Grover said.
Last year, a civil court in Mathura rejected a petition to “reclaim” Krishna Janmabhoomi, alleging that Mughal emperor Aurangzeb had partially destroyed a temple at the supposed birthplace of Lord Krishna.
The petition also calls for the removal of the mosque next to the temple.
The court refused to admit the case, citing a 1947 law prohibiting litigation that altered the status quo at any religious site. The Places of Worship (Special Provisions) Act of 1991 exempted Ayodhya ownership disputes.
