Commey is dangerous
“That would be a good thing because Commey, he is still dangerous. He can hit,” former WBO super featherweight champion Jamel Herring told Social boxing in handing Commey a shot against Lomachenko tonight.
Commey will have a size advantage in this fight, and that might be enough for him to get the win if he can land his shots.
Since moving up to 135th in 2018, Lomachenko has had four tough battles with Jose Pedraza, Teofimo Lopez, Luke Campbell and Jorge Linares.
The only easy fight Lomachenko had at 135 was his wins over Anthony Crolla and Masayoshi Nakatani, and those aren’t at his level. Loma says he wants to stay at 135 to try and be the undisputed champion, but we’ll see if he can accomplish that goal.
What Lomachenko does for him now is Teofimo put on 140 weight because he won’t need to worry about him. Teofimo is a person who weighs 147 pounds who can gain weight at 135 due to his youth.
Now that Teofimo’s body has finally been given to him, he’s growing to 140, and that’s been one of the headaches for Lomachenko.
“Lomachenko is not known to be a natural lightweight product, but as we have seen recently, he has grown in weight. He’s a little bit bigger. His IQ is unbelievable. The whole card is a really good solid card.
“I mean, I want to see it,” Herring said, saying Top Rated promoter Bob Arum wants to fight Lomachenko against WBO ultralightweight champion Shakur Stevenson if Loma succeeds tonight against Herring.
“I was there with Shakur. He’s more cunning than anyone I know. I trained really hard for that match, but he kept increasing his speed and level. I believe he can hook up with people like Lomachenko that they have put in front of him. So I wouldn’t mind seeing it,” Herring said.
