Lou DiBella says Kambosos won’t retire if he loses to Haney on Saturday
Via Brian Webber: Advertiser Lou DiBella says George Kambosos Jr will not retire if he loses his rematch against Devin Haney this Saturday night at Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne, Australia.
DiBella says the Kambosos will be much more aggressive in the rematch against Haney than he was last June when he lost a unanimous decision in 12 innings, and he hopes that will be another fight. .
If former Kambosos unified lightweight champion (20-1, 10 KOs) is beaten again by undisputed 135-lb champion Haney (28-0.15 KOs), DiBella feels that it will be the The result of his confrontation with a boxer was the kryptonite equivalent to him.
Kambosos talked about hanging his lover if he lost the rematch, and apparently, that dampened some of the excitement in the second fight with Haney.
If Kambosos is seriously considering retiring if things don’t go his way, it’s a sign that he lacks the confidence to find success after his rematch with Haney. If Kambosos believes he can get back on his winning streak and win another title, he won’t be talking about retiring.
“It will force him to fight differently, and it will be a much better fight. So I’m not predicting any outcome. It was crazy to do that,” promoter Lou DiBella told Against TV Hub about George Kambosos Jr in his rematch with Devin Haney on Saturday night.
“He [Kambosos] was defeated for most of the round in the final fight, but he didn’t sell out. He doesn’t go to the wall to make Devin as upset as Devin can be.
“He has to do it, and if he does it this time, I think we will see a very different fight. Anyone who is expecting a fight like last time, this is wrong. It won’t be like that. It would be a much better fight.
“He has to fight without regard for his health. He must do. He’s fighting with a guy [Haney] which you cannot box with. You have to make Devin uncomfortable.
“Devin is too good to mix with him, and think you will be able to surpass him technically. That won’t happen. George needs to upset him, George needs to get him into a fight, George needs to get in, and he should know better than that, and I think he does.
“Whoever doesn’t come to this [Haney vs. Kambosos II] is the particle because this is a better card than the last card. Moloney fights have better resistance. Both are fighting very meaningfully.
“This card is loaded, and I always prefer a smaller venue. In my opinion, the bigger the place, the less the experience. So when you go to a place like this, it’s going to be intimate, it’s going to be fun, and it’s going to be a great hand, and it’s going to be a better way of fighting than last time.
“I don’t know if George will continue to fight,” DiBella said when asked if Kambosos would retire if he lost to Haney on Saturday. “I don’t like hearing fighters talk about retiring at the age of twenty after a tough fight. I do not like it.
“I told them that, and I said it to Jim. I don’t think he [Kambosos] mean. It’s hard when you’re on top of a mountain to fall off the top overnight.
“That’s what sets boxing apart from every other sport, it’s that you fall off the top of a mountain overnight. That has an effect on your head, but I think it’s still a child. By the way, Devin Haney could be his kryptonite,“DiBella talks about Kambosos Jr.
