Luxury Rose Bath Water (Do-it-yourself recipe)
Table of contents[Hide][Show]
Soak in a hot tub with these melting roses to help melt away stress! Unlike bath bombs that are lather and refreshing, shower gels are filled with rich oils that leave skin smoother. This is a great way to pamper yourself and also makes a great Valentine’s Day gift…or just because!
What are Rose Bath Melts?
Bath bombs, shower faucets, bath salts… add shower gels to that list! Bath water is packed with emollient oils that can literally melt in a tub.
There are a wide selection of ingredients to make these, but I chose shea butter, coconut oil, and cocoa butter. Here’s why:
Shea butter for skin
Historically used in wound care, shea butter helps with collagen production. This avocado also helps to fortify the skin and fight wrinkles by being anti-inflammatory. It’s a key ingredient in so many of my favorite recipes, including this whipped butter.
Coconut oil for bath
Coconut oil is like the MacGyver of skin care ingredients! My family uses it in everything from oil pulling chews to lotions, and chocolate coconut energy bars. It is also the perfect choice for melted roses.
As an antioxidant, coconut oil is the highest source of lauric acid besides breast milk. This oil is also stable at room temperature so it doesn’t go rancid as quickly as some oils. Coconut oil is antibacterial, helps skin heal faster, and can help fight cellulite.
Rose geranium essential oil
Real rose oil requires about 10,000 pounds of flowers to make 1 pound of oil. You can easily pay over $1,000 for just one ounce of pure rose essential oil! Absolute rose water is distilled with chemical solvents and is a bit cheaper to make, but often toxic. That doesn’t even take into account the environmental impact it takes to turn a large amount of plant material into a small amount of essential oil.
Fortunately, geranium roses have a similar scent but at a slightly lower cost. If you don’t have rose geranium, Egyptian geranium or bourbon will also work, but the scent won’t be quite the same. I find it a much cheaper option, it smells great and comes with skin benefits.
Rose geranium helps improve dull or oily skin and can help with acne and cellulite, according to aromatherapist Julie Lawless.
Kaolin Rose Clay
Rose clay is a type of kaolin clay, but instead of the typical off-white color, it has a pinkish tinge. Its red color is due to natural iron oxides. Rose Kaolin Clay has a smooth consistency that blends seamlessly into skin care products and is especially good for dry to normal skin types.
Warning: Red clay maybe Stained the fabric, so I used an old towel to dry it after using rose water in the bath. Definitely not the time to use your favorite white scarf!
Rose oil
While rose essential oil is rare and expensive, there is a much cheaper way to incorporate rose into skin care. Infused with rose petals in coconut oil helps harness the herb’s beneficial properties. Rose has antioxidants, calms and soothes both skin and mood, and has anti-inflammatory effects. Rose-infused coconut oil makes a lovely addition to this rose bath recipe.

What if I don’t have a bathtub??
You can still enjoy a bath melt even if you don’t have a luxury tub. I like to soak my feet with Epsom salt, but you can substitute salt by soaking your feet in the bath. Your feet will thank you!

Note
To be saved: Keep away from direct light and heat. These melted roses will last for at least 12 months when stored properly.
Where to get supplies
- These are the heat-safe glass bowls I use, or you can use a double boiler if you have one.
- These silicone molds work well for melting bathtubs. I keep a set dedicated to DIY projects. You can use other molds, but the smooth sides will help the shower gel melt cleanly.
Clean up
These bath melts are super hydrating! After patting it dry, I applied more oil to my skin and it absorbed very well. It makes for a bit of a mess in the tub, but that can be easily fixed with a little dish soap and elbow grease.
