Maharashtra Old Age Home Now Detention Area After 67 Positive Covid Tests

Sixty-seven residents, 62 of whom are fully vaccinated, of an old house in Thane of Maharashtra have tested positive for coronavirus, officials said amid the backdrop of the pandemic, officials said. Concerns about a new COVID-19 variant have set off alarm bells around the world. This area has now been declared a restricted area.
A team of government doctors visited the old age home Matoshree in Sorgaon village in rural Bhiwandi on Saturday and tested 109 inmates after some residents reported symptoms of the virus. It is one of the largest clusters discovered in recent months from Thane district.
They were all admitted to a civilian hospital in Thane district.
The PTI news agency quoted county health officer Dr Manish Renge as saying: “After several inmates complained of poor health, a team of doctors examined 109 people on Saturday at the house. for the elderly Matoshree in Khadavali.
“Samples from 15 patients were sent for genome sequencing,” said Dr Kailash Pawar, civilian surgeon, Thane Civil Hospital.
Of the 67 – 62 are prisoners (all are elderly) and five are employees of the old age home.
Of all the patients, 41 are suffering from co-morbidities, the district government said, adding that 30 of them were asymptomatic.
The village of Sorgaon, which has a population of 1,130, has been declared a restricted area and other local residents are also being surveyed.

The new strain has been described by the World Health Organization as a “worrying variant”. The mayor said that genome sequencing of the passengers, if found positive, would also be carried out.
