Manor Lords players cannot make families stop being homeless
True to its name, Lord of the manor Be the city builder about managing a medieval village. You help it grow, fight bandits and eventually participate in larger military campaigns. But it won't work if you can't convince your family to move in and help your society grow, and some players seem to be struggling on that front. “I have houses, homeless people won't take them,” one player wrote on Discord. “Consent is NOT the issue here. I was at 90% before the homeless came.”
The the most popular game on Steam before launching Early Access today, Lord of the manor has exploded with over 150,000 concurrent players, not even including all those playing via Game Pass PC. That pushed it ahead Hell diver 2 in terms of total current players and making it the best-selling game on Steam first Counterattack 2. It's all good news for the developers at Slavic Magic and their publisher, Hooded Horse, and it all seems to have contributed to a record number of homeless farmers.
Players start with just a few groups of villagers, some basic resources, and a cow. At first, they worked in camps to exploit resources and make wood. Ultimately, they must move from the camps to the houses the player has built with them, leading to a virtuous cycle of hard work, expanding villages, and pleasing the people. Except some players can't seem to get their serfs to comply. It sounds frustrating, but also funny.
“So I built the first few houses but the families didn't move in,” Written one player on Steam. “Instead, I keep getting warnings for homeless people…” Some people wondered if it was an error. “I ALWAYS have 5 people who are constantly homeless, even though I have so many stolen lots I can't do anything about,” Written a player on Lord of the manor subreddit. “I swear to God I made some kind of mistake, my original 5 families didn't move into the built burgs, but any new families that came to town have moved in, so now I have 4 families moving in and 5 homeless families, even though I HAVE enough stolen goods and half are empty,” a third person wrote on Discord.
So what's going on here? There are gremlins in Lord of the manor Early access code, or do players just need a few days to figure out the nuances of a realistic management sim? “We have seen similar reports,” said Hooded Horse spokesman Joe Robinson. Kotaku in an email. “While on the surface they appear to be the same top-level problem, there are a number of things that may be going on. Some are by design, but others are related to known bugs and are being addressed.”
One current cause of homelessness is a known bug that prevents burned homes from being rebuilt. Another terrible glitch is that upgrading initial home camps will cause them to never move to nearby heist areas until you destroy the camps. Finally, even if you solve the homeless problem, the corresponding negative modifier may still linger for a bit. “We are investigating a possible bug where malus is not welcoming, so we are not sure about that bug,” Robinson said.
This is just the first day of Lord of the manor' An early access journey with player feedback helps Slavic Magic deliver on its ambitious promise of a medieval strategy game. I'm sure players will discover even more bugs and strange features as they try to unravel what makes Lord of the manor mark and I can't wait to find out what they are.
