Ballet took its first bet win in style, clearly passing to an authoritative win in GIII Santa Ana S. at Santa Anita Sunday. Stretching out 1 1/4 mile for the first time, the cove went far well and was in hand while stalking the long-distance Annaghlasa (Ire) (Estidhkaar {Ire}) set speed through fractions: 24, 01, :47,22 and 1:12.07 . Finally let loose at the far turn, she took the lead at the turn and was quickly out of reach of all her pursuers. Australia Mia (street feeling), which started North America for the second time, was following the pace, but fell behind on the far corner before taking the lead.
Winning coach Simon Callaghan said: “This is definitely the distance we expected. “Throughout the 3 years of her career they kept the races at one mile and one eighth and that was just the bare minimum, so I think now as an older mare , she’ll grow and I think these longer distances, a mile and a half and a mile and a half, they’ll be right in her garage.
Keeneland’s $800,000 aspirational September, Ballet Dance graduated with a mile on the Santa Anita turf last spring before finishing third on the GIII S. Honeymoon in May. She returned to the winner’s circle with a 2 and a half win in extra time on December 29 and she managed to take fourth place in a claimant for the nine-strike option on December 29. February 3.
