Mel Gibson Says He’s Directing New ‘Lethal Weapon’ Sequel
According to The Sun, the actor shared during a recent Experience With… event in London that he will be directing and starring in “Lethal Weapon 5,” 23 years after the final sequel in the series.
“The man who directed all the ‘Lethal’ films, Richard Donner, he was a great man,” the publication quoted Gibson as saying.
“He was developing the script and he’d come pretty far with it. And one day he said to me, ‘Listen kid, if I kick the bucket you’ll make it.” And I said, “Shut up,” said Gibson. “But he actually passed away. But he asked me to do it and at the time I didn’t say anything. He said it to his wife, to the studio and to the producer. So I did. will direct the fifth installment.”
Gibson originated as police officer Martin Riggs in the 1987 film, in which he co-starred with Danny Glover.
CNN has reached out to a Gibson representative for further comment.
