MGSW Lone Rock could aim for Dubai World Cup
Flying P Stable and RA Hill Stable’s Lone Rock (Majestic Warrior), the winner of the 13 Zodiac GII Post-Pure Care Alliance in the Breeders’ Cup in Del on November 6, is a possible candidate for the Dubai World Championship. for $12 million G1 on March 26, according to coach Robertino Diodoro. If all goes well during the 7-year-old’s next warm-up, GIII Razorback H. in Oaklawn on February 12, the Dubai World Cup is likely to follow.
“I don’t know if we have to win or not [the Razorback],” said Diodoro. “We are shortening to a mile and sixteen in Razorback. As long as he reappears and runs like he’s running, we’ll give it a go [Dubai World Cup] definitely some serious consideration. “
Lone Rock closes out its 2021 campaign, which also includes Belmont’s GII Brooklyn S. and Saratoga’s Birdstone S. wins, with a December 18 score in Diodoro’s Tinsel S. for $40,000 in last warm-up in 2020, Churchill’s victory at the one mile. It is the second time in four months – and four starts – that Diodoro has claimed the bay. The balm begins to stretch the Lone Rock out and gelding responds with five wins at a mile and a half or more.
Razorback, held at 1/16 mile, will be Lone Rock’s first start at under 1 1/8 mile since Razorback’s allowable win on his 2021 debut in September. 2 years ago in Oaklawn. The Dubai World Cup takes place at a distance of about 1/4 mile. Gunman (Candy Ride {Arg}) won the 2017 Razorback before finishing second in Dubai culminating in the Horse of the Year title. Paranormal Guide (Ghostzapper) won last year’s Razorback before winning the Dubai World Cup.
“After talking to the owner and stuff, I thought [the Razorback] Diodoro said. “There is a lot of space between Tinsel and Razorback… I went on to say that as soon as this horse tells us it needs a rest, we will give it a rest. But for now, he keeps telling us he’s ready to go and take it one step at a time.”
Lone Rock works Friday morning in Oaklawn, running half a mile at: 49.60 under regular Ramon Vazquez.
