Nintendo partners with Panda Global for new official Smash Bros. tournaments. Ultimate and Melee
Next Purchase the Evolution Championship series by Sony Interactive Entertainment, more commonly known as EVO, fans of Smash Bros. wondered what might happen to the regular Smash Bros tournaments featured at the annual EVO rollouts. The global COVID-19 pandemic has thrown its own wrench during EVO live rollouts, but it looks like Nintendo is poised to officially support the Smash tournament.
“Confirmed. Ready for your A-game, Super Smash Bros. Competitors. We’ve teamed up with Panda Global to kick off the first round of officially licensed Super Smash Bros. championships. in North America, by 2022.”
As you can see in the tweet above, Nintendo has partnered with Panda Global to bring the “first officially licensed circuit to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Super Smash Bros. Melee to North America.” This is particularly unheard of as Nintendo is usually still quite interested in supporting Melee tournaments.
It’s unclear exactly what these tournaments will be like – we’ll find out next year – but Panda says they will have cash prizes.
