The Nissan X-Trail stormed up the sales charts in February, finishing second in its segment behind the Toyota RAV4 and becoming the sixth best-selling vehicle overall in Australia.
With 2508 units registered in the shortest month of the year, Nissan’s long-running SUV nameplate had its most successful month on record in Australia, while posting growth of 283.5 per cent year on year.
Its success comes off the back of improved supply for the brand across the board, as well as the e-Power series hybrid models which first hit the market around this time last year.
Nissan Australia managing director Adam Paterson said e-Power models are now accounting for 24 per cent of X-Trail 4WD sales, though he stopped short of confirming specifics around figures and mix compared to cheaper 2WD versions.

Navara
The X-Trail wasn’t the only model in the brand’s stable enjoying some time in the sun, as Nissan as a whole posted massive growth of 157.2 per cent (to 6617 units) and snagged fourth spot in the manufacturer standings.
For the UK-built Qashqai, it was the small crossover’s best month since March 2021, returning 974 registrations and posting growth of 42.8 per cent compared to the same month in 2023.
The venerable Navara ute range also finished strong, returning its best sales month since December 2021 with 140 4×2 and 1361 4×4 sales.
That saw overall nameplate sales grow by 181 per cent over February 2023, however, that still paled against the likes of the top-selling Ford Ranger (5353 units) and Toyota HiLux (4403 units).
Other winners in the portfolio included the city-sized Juke crossover (498 units, up 223.4 per cent) as well as the full-sized Patrol 4WD (1020 units, up 206.3 per cent).

X-Trail e-Power
Nissan hopes its upward trajectory continues, as “supply has improved and normalised” across its local range.
New products are landing too, with the Qashqai e-Power hybrid arriving this month, an updated Juke due before year’s end, and an all-new Patrol is on the horizon – though the latter probably won’t launch until next year.
Mr Paterson also confirmed with CarExpert that an updated Navara will be detailed in the coming months, “to make sure it’s still fresh and competitive in the market”.
