The Baltimore British Yellowbird and Maryland Governor Wes Moore announced a joint commitment to what they call a “decade-long public-private partnership” to revitalize the Camden Yards sports complex.
A statement from the team and the new governor of the state came Wednesday, the deadline for the Orioles to make a one-time, five-year extension to their lease at Camden Yards. According to multiple reports, the team has no plans to implement that option. Orioles’ rental decision was first reported by The Baltimore Sun.
If not renewed, the lease will expire later this year, but the team and the Maryland Stadium Authority can continue to negotiate. Wednesday’s joint release appeared to be an attempt to defuse any tension in Baltimore about the team’s future.

Republican Larry Hogan, the state’s predecessor, last year signed a bill to strengthen the bond authorization for M&T Bank Stadium, the home of the state. Baltimore Crows, and Camden Yards. This measure allows loans of up to $600 million per stadium.
