The use of artificial intelligence-generated music has just accelerated.
We’re not talking about the AI in the instrument alone manufacturingbut the use of machine learning to actually mimic and even regenerative human voice – making the need for a real singer obsolete.
MBW first explored this topic last March, in which we analysis The lasting meaning of HYBE’s investment on (and next repurchase) Artificial intelligence company based in Korea supersonic – claims that their AI technology can produce “surreal and expressive voices” [not] distinguishable from real people.
Now, in China, things have reached the next level: Tencent Music Entertainment (TME) says it created and released more than 1,000 tracks contains vocals created by AI technology that mimics human voices.
And get this: one of these tracks has surpassed 100 million streams.
In the three months to the end of September, TME deployed what it calls “patented speech synthesis technology”, Lingyin engine. TME says the technology can “quickly and vividly reproduce singers’ voices to create original songs of any style and language”.
Part of TME’s initial work using Lingyin engine involved the development of “synthetic voices in memory of legendary artists” such as the late Teresa Tengand late Anita Mui.

Cussion Pang, Executive Chairman of TME, explained to analysts earlier today (November 15) that TME used the Lingyin Engine to “pay tribute” to Anita Mui by “generating AI code based on AI” she. Where could all of this go next?
For one thing, the mind will inevitably wander to the fact that more than 100,000 won the song currently being uploaded to major music streaming services globally every day.
How far could that number expand if infinite tracks were now spawned with strange human-like AI vocals?
It’s also worth remembering what Choi Hee-doo, COO of Supertone — South Korea’s AI voice generation platform — said last year when pondering how the technology could evolve.
“For example, BTS is really busy these days and it would be a shame if they couldn’t participate in the content due to lack of time,” the executive told CNN.
“So if BTS uses our technology when creating games, audiobooks or dubbing cartoons… they don’t necessarily need to record audio. [that audio live] face to face.”

TikTok specifically (and now) recruit for a Scientist working on speech synthesis in California. TikTok says the person will “lead research to advance science and technology in Natural Language Processing and Speech Processing (e.g., Speech Synthesis, ASR)”.
They will also “research, model, design, develop, and evaluate new machine learning models and algorithms.”
TikTok says the focus of this team is “advanced research and development in areas such as voice and audio, music processing, natural language understanding, and multimodal deep learning.”
Maybe TikTok – runs its own artist distribution service SoundOn, and supposedly prepare to expand its Resso music service to more markets – releasing tracks in the near future (like Tencent Music) that are either created entirely by AI or have ‘AI synthetic voices’?
