Parliament Leader Rashid Alvi on Saturday criticized Uttar Pradesh Deputy Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya for the crime of ‘lungi chaap goons comments and says that not all people who wear lungi are criminals.
Mr. Alvi added that half of the Hindu population in Uttar Pradesh wore tunics, and questioned whether Mr. Maurya, in his statement, meant that all people wearing lung-shirts are criminals.
Mr. Maurya, at an event yesterday, described the people wearing “Lungi and Topi“as a challenge to law and order situation for previous governments in Uttar Pradesh.
Maurya has also said that after 2017, since the BJP government was established in the state, such ‘criminals’ have not been seen.
Address ‘Vyapari sammelan“during Prayagraj, Maurya said, ‘Before 2017, how many lung-jacketed goons roamed here? Who wears a skull cap that once threatened a merchant with a gun? Who has trespassed on your land and threatened you not to go to the Police?”
Alvi then attacked the BJP and said they were “targeting a specific community” to win the Uttar Pradesh election.
Further, Avli said that “the public understood the intelligence of the BJP” and that the BJP was “frightened by this fact”.
Uttar Pradesh Council elections are scheduled to take place early next year.
In the 2017 National Assembly elections, the BJP won a resounding victory when it won 312 seats in the National Assembly. The party won 39.67% of the vote in the election to the 403-member National Assembly. The Samajwadi Party (SP) won 47 seats, the BSP won 19 seats while the National Assembly could only win seven seats.
