Pertamina fire: Blaze at Indonesian fuel storage station kills at least 16

At least 16 people have been killed in a fire at a fuel storage station in the Indonesian capital Jakarta, CNN affiliate CNN Indonesia reported on Friday.
The station is operated by Pertamina, Indonesia’s state-owned energy company.
Footage on social media showed a huge fire raging and people running for cover.
Some nearby residents were evacuated and the Jakarta fire brigade dispatched 52 units to respond to the blaze.
Company CEO Nicke Widyawati told CNN Indonesia Pertamina will investigate the cause of the fire and provide treatment to those affected.
Widyawati said fuel supplies for Jakarta will be supplied from other nearby stations.
In 2018, one oil spill The cause was the leak of Pertamina’s undersea crude oil pipeline, which killed five fishermen.
Indonesian authorities at the time declared a state of “emergency response” to the large-scale oil spill and environmental damage off the coast of the Southeast Asian nation.
