Peter Miller fined, suspended for allegedly training program
Coach Peter Miller was fined $10,000 and given a seven-day suspension by Santa Anita Park management for violating the California Horse Racing Board’s regulation on programmatic training. The ruling was made under a joint regulatory and issuance agreement with the CHRB.
As previously reported, the CHRB filed a complaint earlier this week alleging that Miller remained engaged in daily horse training after they were delivered and listed under the name of his former assistant Ruben Alvarado. Alvarado was named in a related complaint, but the ruling was only posted against Miller on the CHRB site on Saturday night.
Miller announced last fall that he is “taking a break from exercising” because of what he claims is spending “more time with my family, focusing on overall health and wellness, and pursuing other interests.” “. It was then speculated that Miller actually walked away under scrutiny for a series of five catastrophic injuries on his horses in 2021. Miller has denied such claims.
Miller’s former cadets began racing as Alvarado in early December, but the CHRB alleges that Miller “conducted conduct consistent with the duties of a trainer at the San Luis Rey Training Center with the horses.” in Ruben Alvarado’s cage” from December 23, 2021 to March 24, 2022.
Miller has returned as a coach listed at Churchill Downs May 29, and is said to be gearing up to return at the upcoming Los Alamitos and Del Mar meet in California.
