Phil Thornton named Senior Vice President of Capitol Christian Music Group
Phil Thornton has been appointed Senior Vice President of Capitol Christian Music Group (Capitol CMG).
Thornton will report to the company’s Co-Chairs, Brad O’Donnell and Hudson Plachy.
In this newly created position, Thornton will focus on new business development, talent signing, and developing label, media and touring partnerships on behalf of Capitol CMG artists, the company said.
Thornton assumes his new role May 3 and will be based at Capitol CMG headquarters in Nashville.
Thornton was formerly Senior Vice President/General Manager of RCA Inspiration, a Nashville-based gospel music label operated by RCA Inspiration. Music by SonyProvident Band.
At the label, Thornton signed with Mariah Carey to release Love at Christmas, there’s Khalid and Kirk Franklin.
He also paired HER and Tauren Wells, now signed with Capitol CMG, for a GRAMMY-nominated collaboration. Keeping us together (Hope Mix)collaborate with Fruit garden signed to Tribl Records, home of Maverick City Music, and collaborated with Pharrell Williams for his Voices Of Fire choir, recorded in a Netflix series.
Thornton previously served as Vice President and General Manager of Urban Inspiration at eOne Music from 2012 to 2016 where he oversaw a roster of Gospel and R&B artists including Erica Campbell, Shirley Caesar, Jonathan McReynolds, Tweet and Lalah Hathaway.
Thornton joined a series of recent hires and promotions at the Capitol.
