Poland inks $5.76 billion contracts for Korean-made tanks and howitzers
Seoul’s arms procurement agency said two South Korean defense companies signed a $5.76 billion contract with Poland last month to execute export agreements for the K2 and K2 modern battle tanks. K9 self-propelled tank.
According to a press release from the Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA), Hyundai Rotem Co. and Hanwha Defense signed an operating contract with the Warsaw Armed Forces on Friday for the supply of K2 tanks and K9 artillery.
DAPA does not disclose the terms of the contract. However, the Polish Ministry of Defense tweeted that the contracts required the delivery of 180 K2 tanks in the period 2022-25 and 212 K9 tanks in the period 2022-26.
These contracts are a continuation of the previous month’s “framework” contracts, establishing the basic outlines of export arrangements. The signing event took place at a Polish motorized unit in Morag, northern Poland.

Under the framework contracts, Poland committed to buy 980 K2 tanks and 648 K9 cannons, as well as 48 FA-50 fighters, from the companies and Korea Aerospace Industries, according to Warsaw. It described the deals as one of the country’s “most important and largest” defense orders in recent years.
