Poland makes progress on future air defense system
European missile manufacturer MBDA announced on Tuesday that Poland is making progress in its future air defense system.
As noted by the company, the Polish State Arms Corporation (PGZ) and its subsidiaries, PIT-RADWAR, JELCZ and WZU, in cooperation with MBDA have been making rapid progress in the field. Short-range air defense (SHORAD) solution, called “Mała NAREW”, with the first two Polish iLauncher of the system already present in Poland, is being integrated and tested before delivery to the customer.
This project is aimed at the rapid delivery of two SHORAD-class fire units armed with CAMM missiles, integrated with Polish SOŁA radar stations and C2 systems.

“Mała NAREW” devices are being adapted to work in a SHORAD class solution. The functional integration of the radar stations, the C2 system and the CAMM missile control software will go hand in hand with the physical integration of the next iLauncher with the JELCZ truck chassis. The first training sessions for the iLauncher operator and the Polish components of the “Mała NAREW” system were carried out.

The “Mała NAREW” program, in addition to the fire units, also includes a training and logistics package. According to the project, PGZ and MBDA are working on integrating selected British and Polish elements in air defense systems as well as providing technical support for ordered equipment at the operational stage. The contract stipulates the delivery of the first “Mała NAREW” firefighting unit this year and the second in 2023.
