Outside of Royal Ascot, the Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup meeting will be worth £640,000, a 15% increase, with all eight races taking place for £80,000 alongside £25,000 fixed prizes. The same stable award bonus will also be applied on QIPCO’s King George Diamond Day.
Nick Smith, Director of Racing and Community Affairs at Ascot Racecourse, said: “Amid a drop in central funding, more than £1.1m or almost 14% increase in funding is needed in the Executive Contribution to reach this figure. That represents a significant investment, and while many of the top gains have been in Royal Ascot, there have also been increases to Class 2 and Class 3 Handicap on the Flats due to a welcome increase in Minimum Value in this field. We have refocused on raising the profile of the Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup, which attracts international horse racing talent from around the world and are delighted that each of the eight races will be worth £80,000.”
