Via Allan Fox: Boxing mentor Rick Glaser believes WBA middleweight champion Ryota Murata has a great chance of defeating IBF champion Gennadiy Golovkin in their unification match on April 9 on DAZN at the Super Arena, in Saitama , Japan.
A defeat by Golovkin to Murata will cripple hopes of facing Canelo Alvarez on September 17. In order for Golovkin to get a duel with Canelo, he must defeat Murata.
That’s tough because 2012 Olympic gold medalist Murata is arguably a more talented boxer than Sergiy Derevyanchehnko, and that guy made Golovkin hell on earth in October 2019. Really, it was. was the last time Golovkin fought a middleweight, and he was said to have lost.
Glaser believes that a combination of Golovkin’s age, wearing a ring, inactivity and not living the life of a starving boxer due to his huge fortune may have resulted in him losing to Murata .
Golovkin has made millions from his matches with Canelo Alvarez and his contract with DAZN.
He hasn’t fought an opponent of his caliber since his rematch with Canelo in 2018 and it’s been a long time to fight an elite level opponent.
Although 36-year-old Murata (16-2, 13 KOs) hasn’t been in a bout since 2019, he’s younger than Golovin and has less wear and tear in his career.
Golovkin lives the LA lifestyle
“I believe Murata has a great chance to win the war, a great chance to win the war,” Rick Glaser told. Fighthype in Ryota’s April 9 unification battle against Golovkin.
“He won a gold medal at the Olympics in London in 2012, and has won his rematches after his two losses as a professional. He’s an excellent puncher, and he’s going to be in great shape. He has the home field advantage.
“I think that all invisible things, not only age but wear and tear, but all other invisible things favor Murata. If Murata raised his hand at the end of a very tiring battle, I wouldn’t be surprised.
“I don’t mean for a robbery, I mean legal. It was a unified match and both are champions for a reason.
“But there is also another factor that I am looking at is that even though both have been inactive for the last few years because of Covid because we have not been able to fight the biggest fight to pay these people what they only Huy.
“The other problem is that GGG didn’t live that Kazakh lifestyle. He’s living that LA lifestyle. Those things make you soft. As Marvelous Marvin Hagler said, lying on a silk bed sheet and wearing a silk robe doesn’t help your mental state when it comes to boxing.
“Boxing is the smell of the gym, getting out there at 4 a.m. and running 5 miles. A guy like GGG, 40 years old, can have $30-40 million in the bank, maybe $50 million, maybe $60 [million]who knows?
“He would say, ‘I don’t have to run today, I’m leaving camp today’ or whatever. ‘I’ll eat these three burritos.’
“Everything I’m talking about adds up, and these add up to a potential annoyance because these are the things that are causing the disturbance,” says Glaser.
Murata has a great chance of winning
“A tall guy [Murata] Glaser said. “Murata has a good forefoot, he’s a great amateur. All these little invisible things add up, and I think this is a war where Murata is being overlooked.
“Everyone has scheduled the GGG vs. Canelo in September. Here are my thoughts on that. I think Canelo has a much better shot [Dmitry] Bivol outperformed GGG when he defeated Murata.
“It could go both ways,” Glaser said of Golovkin’s close-quarter victory over Sergiy Derevyanchenko. “It was the first war where wear and tear appeared [for Gennadiy]. Also, [Kamil] Szeremeta is a C+ fighter, he’s not a world class fighter. Anyone can look good against him.
“He was put in a world title fight to make GGG look good and set him up for another fight, and that fight didn’t happen until now because of Covid and all. types of legal delays and potential lawsuits and lawsuits.
“When he got rid of Abel Sanchez, he removed him for the wrong reasons because he wanted to pay him less. That is not a good sign. That means you are no longer a warrior. You are a businessman. That’s not a good sign in the ring,” Glaser said.
Ryota with less miles than him
Glaser said: “Murata is said to look good in the gym, when he’s fighting boxers. “He will be in great shape, eat the right foods and will do full strength & conditioning, and be in great shape.
“I think there’s an era of spread there. One just turned 36 in January and GGG is turning 40. That’s a huge disparity, especially when a guy has only had 18 teamfights. [Murata] and the other guy has 42. GGG has had more amateur fights, hundreds.
“The other guy didn’t have that much, even though he ended up winning a gold medal at the Olympics. I think the difference in wear and tear, Murata is being greatly underrated because quote, he is Japanese, and most of the larger Japanese fighters are not so good.
“Normal boys are still good. Occasionally they come with a larger fish and this is a very good larger fish.
“I know when he [Murata] fighting fights regularly there are 35,000 people there. It was a saving grace for GGG and anyone supporting GGG at the betting window is in for this fight right there. That is salvation. A big payday on the way out the door.
“In the two times Golovkin played against Canelo, Canelo weighed 160 pounds and was basically a young man and was not physically mature enough to be what he is now. He’s a complete fighter now, he’s at his peak now and for the next two years or so,” Glaser said.
Golovkin is about to retire
“GGG is in line nine, no one can convince me that he is not in the back nine towards the clubhouse. I just think he [Canelo] mop the floor with him this time.
“I think Golovkin will give 1000% of his strength if he goes there and beats Murata. I think it was two ships crossing the sea in the night going in opposite directions.
“One is going up and the other is going down,” Glaser said of Canelo still seemingly ascending and Golovkin on his way out the door. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Murata against Canelo in September,” Glaser said.
Bivol lacks the strength to defeat Canelo
“Canelo-Bivol, the only thing in that fight that lasted a full 12 rounds or Canelo stopped him. There is no question who will win. Canelo is a much better thinker, number one. He’s much faster.
“That guy has a really good kick. Canelo sees all the things that are coming. The others aren’t a puncher anymore. Who was the last person he knocked down? Maybe Sullivan Barrera?
“So Canelo won’t be afraid of his punching power. He will go into him and unload with evil body pictures and freeze him.
“Bivol’s only saving grace is said to be that he has a nice chin and he has good footwork. He’s going to need it because Canelo comes in with a bloated head like he’s finished before all these super middleweights and all these people, it’s going to be a real torture.
“The other thing is that Bivol has had very little activity and Canelo has fought a lot. I don’t see any way that Bivol won the war with no way, no shape, no chance.
“The punching power is not there, and he didn’t do anything particularly great to beat Canelo. You will have to do many great things to beat Canelo.
“For me, no one can beat Canelo. The one who gave him the best fight was David Benavidez, but he didn’t beat him. I do not see. He will run [Jermall] Charlo immediately exited the ring. I really mean.
“Charlo would scream for help if he was hit by two shots. He’s a unique fighter,” Glaser said of Canelo.
