Sea Of Stars, Retro RPG Prequel to The Messenger, postponed to 2023
Sea of starsPromising classic RPG from the team behind The Messenger, is the latest title to receive pushed out of 2022.
Developer Sabotage posted a statement saying they simply want to improve the adventure as much as possible without cutting its staff.
As we were hitting a huge milestone, the launch path became clearer and we found ourselves here with a large chunk of our text and logo at the bottom. Keeping in mind our two main priorities – quality of life for our team and quality of the finished game – we can now confirm that Sea of Stars will be released in 2020. 2023.
We understand that waiting is a big ask and would like to sincerely thank our community for the positive support and positive vibes. In the meantime, we’re looking at options to make a part playable for everyone this year.

While the delay is an unfortunate outcome, we appreciate the team’s respect for the work/life balance of our employees and the drive for quality. The idea of getting a demo this year is certainly intriguing as well, as Sea of Stars looks phenomenal every time it comes out.
The game was first revealed in 2020 after a successful Kickstarter campaign and evoked JRPGs like Chrono Trigger, Illusion of Gaia, and Breath of Fire. It even features music contributions by Chrono Trigger Composer Yasunori Mitsuda. Despite being an RPG title, it serves as a prequel to 2018’s The Messenger, an action game inspired by Ninja Gaiden that has been well received (this is our review). Sea of Stars revolves around two heroes who use the power of the moon and sun to battle an evil alchemist. You can check out the original reveal trailer below.
