Shakur Stevenson reacts when Lubin loses to Fundora by knockout
Via Jim Calfa: Shakur Stevenson was saddened to see Erickson ‘The Hammer’ Lubin suffer a brutal penalty en route to losing to Sebastian ‘The Towering Inferno’ Fundora by a ninth-half goal in their battle for the WBC title. temporary center last Saturday night at the Theater at Virgin Hotel in Las Vegas.
Stevenson, a defense-focused boxer, said he didn’t like seeing Erickson take too many hits from the lanky Fundora, who threw punches nonstop for the entire match.
Unfortunately, Lubin lacked the height, reach, stamina and punch output to live with Fundora after the competition reached its sixth round.
Even if Lubin had chosen to put all his strength into defense against Fundora, too many punches had been thrown at him to eliminate them all.
Lubin’s corner pulled the 26-year-old out of the fight after a one-sided ninth game, in which he was hammered by 6’6″ tall Fundora throughout the round.
1st place World Boxing Council candidate at 154, Lubin, has his face completely reshaped from punches he has taken from Fundora.
“I don’t like watching it. I’m a boxer, so I like to hit and not get hit,” Shakur Stevenson told Against TV Hubreacts to watching Erickson Lubin being stopped by Sebastian Fundora last Saturday night.
“I don’t like to see my brothers or someone else being punished. Looks like he will have to undergo punishment tonight,” Stevenson continued on ‘The Hammer’ Erickson.
Fundora a cheat code. He’s the type of character you make on the night of the fight and you turn the sliders up and his height and weight class are smaller.

Crawford got it wrong about Fundora. This guy is naturally thin and walks around 154 lb.
Unlike many boxers in the sport, Fundora is not a ‘weight bully’, playing the system game by draining the water to compete with smaller boxers. Fundora beats Lubin because of his work speed and toughness, not because of his size.
“I feel like him [Lubin] stood there and wanted to fight. It’s hard to get rid of such a tall person. He can hit you all the way back there. I mean, I just feel like he should have been a bit more defensive. ”
It won’t be enough for Lubin to beat Fundora by choosing to keep “his defenses a little bit tighter,” says Shakur would prefer to do so.
Fundora poured rain on Lubin, and it felt like he was being showered. With so many shots, Lubin had no choice but to take the hit.
You could argue that Fundora’s 6’6 inch punch is the main cause of Lubin taking so many punishments, not his height & reach.
Fundora gave up his height by staying in the mid-range throughout the fight, meaning his size was not a leading factor in his victory. His mass punch finally proved too much for Erickson last Saturday night.
“His [Lubin] The coach looked at me in the final round,” Shakur said. “He will stop it in that inning. They probably didn’t stop it sooner because Erickson has a lot of heart, and he showed it when he hurt him. [Fundora] and dropped him [in the seventh]. Sure, I think his corner did a great job,” Stevenson said.
Lubin excelled when he came back in the seventh round to hurt Sebastian, dropping him hard. However, Fundora immediately bounced back in the round of 16 and was lighting up Erickson with repeated shots to the head that put him in the face.
Stevenson’s brand of fighting, which employs a pullback style, won’t be able to stand up to a boxer who throws nonstop shots like Fundora.
The style Shakur uses will be more effective against fighters with low work rates, and it won’t work if he’s facing someone who throws 1000+ punches in a 12-round bout.
