Sharjhah cuts work week to 4 days, weekends to 3 days
Dubai, United Arab Emirates:
The southern emirate of Sharjah Bay has announced the transition to a three-day weekend for the official sector.
The move comes after the United Arab Emirates said on Tuesday that it would cut the official working week to four and a half days and move the weekend to Saturday and Sunday.
Taking it a step further, the Sharjah Executive Council said its decision was made “in line with the UAE’s vision to enhance its competitive position”.
The working week for Sharjah government agencies will be reduced from Monday to Thursday, and the weekend will last from Friday to Sunday.
The transition, which will begin January 1, will “support the business environment and economic markets, and keep pace with global developments”.
Despite being the only Gulf state without a Friday-Saturday weekend, the resource-rich and ambitious UAE is now well-suited to the non-Arab world.
