Skull & Bones Co-Director Departs from Ubisoft
Skull & Bones has lost a co-director.
First reported by Chronicles of video games, Antoine Henry recently revealed on LinkedIn that he left Ubisoft after working for nearly 15 years at the company. Henry says he’ll be on “new exciting adventures” soon, which is great. However, his departure from the company’s Singapore studio is seen as another loss for the Skull & Bones team, which seems to have struggled to make any headway since its inception. 2017 revealed.
Game informant Skull & Bones’ well-documented journey through hell developed recently in Part 1 of our series of video games stuck in development hell (this is Part 2 and Part 3 if you are curious to know more). In a nutshell, this marine game was last seen by the public in 2018 – we started working on it that year. There was even a beta player who was able to sign up that year. Of course, no one has played the aforementioned beta, but the fact that such a thing already exists proves that Ubisoft is feeling pretty confident in the title at some point in its history.
In May 2019, it has been delayed to 2020and as it slipped through that year, Ubisoft announced in 2021 that Skull & Bones is slated to release sometime between April 2022 and March 2023. Last year, we learned that it was last in Alpha, but getting to that point is quite difficult, and now, the world (okay, maybe not the world, but I’m eager to see what the game is, at least) awaits its next reveal.
It’s important to note that Henry’s departure from Ubisoft doesn’t necessarily paint a bleak picture of Skull & Bones’ development hell gallery. Sometimes, developers leave titles behind after their work is done – perhaps Henry’s work on Skull & Bones is done and, feeling confident enough that the team can get it done for release, he decided to leave. However, with such a troubled development history, it’s hard not to look at this news with skepticism as proof that Skull & Bones is still in trouble.
