Sony dropped EA from very high in latest court document
The never-ending squabble between Microsoft and Sony, regarding the company’s previous attempt to acquire Activision Blizzard King, brings a new bright spot every day. Yesterday we had Microsoft claims that they have trashy exclusive titles compared to Sonyand today Sony just raised its voice dissect EA battlefield franchise in an attempt to prove how much better call of duty performances.
It’s all part of an ongoing effort to prove that one of the world’s biggest console makers shouldn’t own one of the biggest game publishers in the world, which—you know —sounds like a bad idea. But as Sony and Microsoft continually lower themselves and others in an attempt to win the Who’s the Worst debate, nothing seems sacred at all. Hence the startling statement of PlayStation owners to the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) that EA battlefield would be a poor replacement if it lost access to call of duty Franchising.
“call of duty is not copyable,” Sony filed with the CMA, as reported by precipice. “call of duty too entrenched for any adversary, no matter how well equipped, to catch up.” Explaining that it was the best-selling game “almost” every year for the past decade, it said that “other publishers do not have the resources or expertise to match its success.” Now, all of that sounds contrived, because at one point Medal of Honor best selling series call of dutybut certainly in terms of branding, CoD have everything else beat. But to drive home, Sony waits for an oncoming bus and then pushes hard:
To give a concrete example, Electronic Arts – one of the largest third-party developers after Activision – has been trying to create a competitor for years. call of duty with it battlefield series. Although there are similarities between call of duty and battlefield—and despite EA’s track record in developing other successful AAA franchises (such as FIFA, Block effect, need for speedand Star Wars: The Front)-the battlefield franchises can’t keep up.
Sony added battlefieldlatest entry of – compare miss of the 2042—sold “only” 88.7 million copies, compared to CoD400 million.
Microsoft has repeatedly emphasized that call of duty won’t become an Xbox exclusive, as recent as yesterday explains how the Activision giant will stay cross-platform, while Elder Scrolls will noteven though based on utter nonsense that star school is a precariousness New IP and, um, fallout 76 is “appropriate.” So you can understand why Sony might not take their word for it.
At the same time, do not sell CoD to half of your current player base would be insanely stupid, and while some people can switch from PlayStation to Xbox to keep playing the shooter every year, it won’t happen 200 million.
Oh, to be honest, I don’t care. Stupid, childish nonsense is making a lot of lawyers incredibly rich, millions of unimaginable abandoned while the company Customers are wondering how they will keep heating this winter. But I really hope that a lot of these “wretched us” jokes come back to bite both console makers in the ass.
