Sony’s Director Morbius Thinks He Can Beat Marvel’s Doctor Strange
Morbius, the protagonist of Morbius. check him out. But there is a story Morbius Directed by Daniel Espinosa (Child 44) is used to show executives why his Morbius movies are not just SpidermanEccentric Freedom’s Enemy:
That time Morbius almost killed Sorcerer Supreme.
Espinosa told Polygon via Zoom: “I loved the moment he sucked out Doctor Strange’s life force. He didn’t mention the serial number, but we think he might be talking about 1993 Doctor Strange, Sorcerer Supreme #53, where the villain Nightmare pits Dr. Michael Morbius and Dr. Stephen Strange against each other, not in a theater.
“I just keep saying it to all the executives, like, You do not understand. This guy was about to beat Doctor Strange! This is not nobody. And we don’t really know the full extent of his power. I wanted to show the thing – in the comics, 15 years ago, it was introduced, the idea of the Spider Totem. ”
In the early ’00s, J. Michael Straczynski introduced a class of god-like characters into the Spider-Man comics – Spider Totems – who chose mortals in the multiverse to carry their essence. In short, they’re the reason many universes in the Marvel multiverse have some sort of Spider-Man (Or women, or pig). In 2015, Dan Slott took that idea and used it for the foundation of the multiverse jumping Spider-Man team event. Spider-Versewhich eventually became the inspiration for 2018 Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
But the comics also imply that there may be other animal-themed Totem cabs, and Espinosa chooses to believe that, like Spider-Man, Morbius is a mortal avatar for god-like forces.
“I’ve always felt that the reason he beat Doctor Strange was because he was in fact Batman, like Totem. So in a similar way to Spiders, they have an eternal amount of cosmic power to draw from. ”
If that sounds far-fetched, well, it was the kind of incredible creativity that drove comics at the time Morbius was created. In 1971, the Marvel comics universe closed its first decade in a very different national mood than it did in 1961. A new generation of creators is driving the trend of growth, and the loosening of Self-imposed content limits of American comics which means both new and old stories are available to tell more.
“Comics don’t know where to go,” Espinosa mused to Zoom. “They will come in blaxploitation? Or maybe an older way of saying it? Do they retreat to the 60s instead, which is much more representative. […] When Morbius came [to be invented] you don’t quite know if it is [a return to] the Twilight Zone kind of Marvel, like the way it started, with Monster stories. ”
The idea of making a movie about Marvel monsters was clearly appealing Life manager.
“That’s why if you start listening to the track, it’s a horror track,” he said. “If you go to Spotify, and just listen to the music, that’s it,” he mimics the dramatic and ominous stomping of the orchestra. “That’s what I like, to play with that stuff.”
Another thing longtime Marvel fans enjoy? Upgrade Daily Bugle from New York Post to New York Times.
“I was a kid in the 80s, OK? So for me, Daily Bugle is a good newspaper. Ben Urichfor me, is the best journalist in the world, and he doesn’t work on some crap – and Robbie Robertson He’s the proudest editor-in-chief in the world, and he’s a nice guy, and he tries to do a good job of journalism. So that’s why I changed, I changed the design of the Daily Bugle, so that it looks more like a proper newspaper”.
And while I might miss the chance for a “MORBIUS? THREE OR MENACE? ” title, I can respect that. Ben Urich To be a good journalist.
