Spain to introduce free multi-journey train journeys from September
(CNN) – Public transport prices for state-owned services across Spain have halved due to rapidly rising energy and inflation rates. Now the government has announced another 100% discount.
From September, passengers will be able to ride on various trains operated by the public train network Renfe at absolutely no charge.
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez has announced that multi-journey tickets for trains issued by the public services of the Cercanías, Rodalies and Media Distance networks (equivalent to local and average journeys) will be free of charge. from 1 September until the end of the year.
According to public broadcaster TVE, the measure does not include single-trip tickets or long-distance trips. Multi-trip tickets include a minimum of 10 round trips.

“This measure encourages the maximum use of this collective public transport to ensure the necessary daily commuting with a safe, reliable, comfortable, economic and durable means of transport. sustainable, amid steady increases in fuel and energy prices,” the Spanish Transport Ministry said in a statement.
The Renfe scheme was announced shortly after the Spanish government pledged to reduce public transport fees by 50% for state-owned vehicles.
Spain is not the only European country to adopt measures to reduce public transport costs.
Klimaticket costs only $1,267 (€1,095) a year, which works out to about $3.50 a day.
