Via Allan Fox: Shawn Porter says he wants to see welterweight champions Errol Spence Jr. and Terence Crawford went on a world tour to promote their match after it was announced.
Spence-Crawford promoters can be a hindrance to a world tour, as it costs a lot of money and they may not feel it’s worth the cost.
We know the match between Spence vs. The Crawford will be sold in the United States, but for it to work well outside the US, it will require a world tour starring two fighters. If only Spence & Crawford were on a round-the-world tour, that would save money.
“I’m just waiting for it to be announced,” Shawn Porter told Fighthype about the undisputed clash between Errol Spence Jr and Terence Crawford in the welterweight division.
“I think the war sells itself. Hopefully the promoters do what they have to do to make the ad as big as possible. I encourage everyone to reserve their predictions for a great war.
“Both guys know what it feels like to be on the big stage and they love it. Put those people on the stage, and they’ll perform. I want them to start a world tour, even if it’s just them. The bonus is there in the backend.
“That cross appeal is for us. You just have to do what promoters aren’t used to, which is to take steps you might not have had to do in the past. I don’t know if Bob has to take the steps to the NFL and NFL [to sell fights] in the past. It’s worth it now, so do it.
“I asked someone, should they [Spence & Crawford] Going to England? Should they take a world tour because of this? The guy said, ‘I don’t know how well they will translate to other countries.’
“Then I said both of these people had these experiences, and they could do it. Then the guy said, ‘Well if you take them to countries where people know them, they get excited, and that can help.’ That’s what I want them to do,” Porter said of Spence and Crawford.
