Splitgate developer announces new indie shooter sequel
Splitgate is a surprisingly small game with an outsized impact on the competitive shooter space. The game has a great premise: that is Halo Multiplayer action, but everyone has Portal gun. On Friday, 1047 The Game said it will end the development of new features and content for Splitgate so it’s possible to create a new game, set in the same universe, using Unreal Engine 5.
“After much deliberation and deliberation, the 1047 Games team determined that to build the game the fans deserve – and to build the game in a way that doesn’t try to retrofit and operate the product. available – we’re wrapping up feature development on Splitgate,” the studio wrote in a statement shared on Twitter.
SplitgateThe concept and strong gameplay have built a strong and dedicated community over the past three years. The game has overall “very positive” reviews among Steam users, after more than 100,000 reviews since launch.
1047 Games didn’t share much else about the upcoming title, other than that it will also be a free-to-play shooter with portal guns. Splitgate Survive when some other shooting games fail because of the power of these portals. When I played the original game in 2019, I was amazed at the tactical possibilities it opened up.
Situations that are common with the genre, like a sniper facing a choke point full of enemies, or a frantic duel between competitors, become much more interesting with ports. Players can spoof each other, make clever escapes, and make trick shots at otherwise impossible angles.
While the game is a great shooter for now, it will be interesting to see what new direction the developer takes the title. Games like Apex Legends and Valuable substance succeeded in focusing on the game’s character design and creating a compelling roster, while other titles focused on adding more PvP modes and match types.
While the new title is in development, 1047 Games said they will continue to support Splitgate with minor updates and bug fixes.
