Spotify to finally raise flagship Premium price in the US next week, reports Wall Street Journal
The past few days have brought – at least from the perspective of music rights holders – welcome news that the top price for YouTube Music (And YouTube Premium) is being increased in the United States.
That news follows a similar rally in the United States over the past year from apple music ($9.99 per month to $10.99 per month for its top personal subscription) and Amazon Music.
However, we still haven’t heard any beeps from Spotify about the monthly price tag increase for its individual Premium subscription tier in the US.
Looks like it’s about to change.
The Wall Street Journal today’s report (July 21) Spotify will announce a price increase next week, with its flagship personal subscription product rising in the US from 9.99 US dollars every month to $10.99 per month – the same increase that Apple Music has issued for its service in October last year.
The WSJ The report added that Spotify’s similar price hike is expected to hit “dozens of markets” globally in the coming months.
Data recently revealed by the National Music Publishers Association (NMPA) suggest that Spotify counts 44.4 million won paying subscribers in the United States as of the end of February.
At the same time, recommend NMPA figures, Apple Music already has 32.6 million won US-based subscribers, with Amazon Music on 29.3 million won.
In addition to these subscriber stats, at the NMPA’s annual meeting – which took place on June 14 – the trade body’s CEO and President, David the Israelitedisclosed what he called a “very important announcement” about two of these services.
According to Israelite: “When Amazon and Apple increased their subscription price, not only did they not lose subscribers, but they also grew subscribers.”
In Q4 of last year, Apple Music announced that it has increased the standard monthly subscription price from US$9.99 to US$10.99 and £9.99 to £10.99 in the UK. It also increased Family Plan prices in both territories.
