An original poster of Star Wars is expected to sell for up to £8,000 when it goes to auction next month alongside hundreds of iconic film memorabilia.
More than 750 rare works of art will be featured in the largest collection of alternative movie posters to be sold in Europe at the Prop Store’s cinema posters auction, which runs from 8-9. December.
The two-day auction will attract film fans from around the world to bid for a treasure trove of film memorabilia worth more than £250,000.
One of the most sought-after pieces in the collection is Josh Kirby’s concept movie poster, titled Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, which is expected to sell for up to £8,000.
Movie posters from the private collection of “filmmaking legends” Howard Kazanjian, Bryan Fuller and Charles Lippincott are also expected to appear in the auction.
Kazanjian, producer of Star Wars and Indiana Jones, will be auctioning off original artwork from the 1980s Star Wars movie, The Empire Strikes Back, and a “Happy Birthday” style poster. from the 1977 film Star Wars: A New Hope.
Meanwhile, a UK Quad poster from the 1956 film Forbidden Planet is expected to sell for up to £10,000 at auction – making it a potential bestseller of the event. .
A cinematic poster for the 2005 film War Of The Worlds, signed by Tom Cruise, Steven Spielberg and Justin Chatwin was also up for grabs, along with a poster for the 2015 James Bond film Specter, which reads signed by Daniel Craig, Lea Seydoux and others.
Prop Store CEO Stephen Lane said: “We are delighted to announce our first poster auction of two days featuring an outstanding collection of posters and artwork. Another for movie fans to enjoy.
“We’re especially excited about the extensive collection of alternative movie posters that will be sold as part of a 790 lot auction on December 8 and 9.”
Mark Hochman, Prop Store poster expert, said the auction will see “the company’s largest ever sale of dedicated movie posters with more than 750 lots spread over two days, including films. Hollywood blockbusters, familiar favorites, and over 200 Alternative Movie Posters with multiple lots offered at the first auction.”
He added: “Once again, we’re proud to present original works and unique proof-of-concept prints from creative design agency FEREF and movie posters from Howard’s private collection of filmmaking legends. Kazanjian, Bryan Fuller and Charles Lippincott.”
The auction will be live streamed and will accept cryptocurrency as a form of payment.
