Stephen Colbert Brutally Mocks Trump’s Double ‘Eric’ Endorsement
Stephen Colbert taped his show before the polls closed on Tuesday night so he was unable to report who the winner was. “But in this year’s GOP primaries, it’s safe to say, some crazy asshole,” he said in Late show monologue.
The presenter entered Missouri’s Republican Senate primaries, the race in which his show aired. was called for that state’s attorney general, Eric Schmitt, beat former Governor Eric Greitens, who appears to be a third away.
As Colbert explains, “Both of these are MAGA candidates,” and both were seeking Donald Trump’s endorsement until the very end.
“Establishment Republicans desperately want the former president to endorse Eric Schmitt because, A, he is leading in the polls, and B, Eric Greitens has resigned as governor in disgrace following the scandals. allegation of aggravated sexual assault,” he continued. “In fact, he has so much baggage that Missouri Republicans are running offensive ads against Greitens, their own candidate, in an effort to secure a nomination for a candidate. Republicans are less controversial.”
“How horrible must you be these days to be cut off by Republicans? That’s like being told you’re too crazy for the Mansons.“
“Concessions!” Colbert added. “How do you have to be horrible these days to be cut down by Republicans? It’s like being told you’re too crazy for the Manson family.”
Of course, Trump decided to leave the race in the hands of Missouri voters because just confirm “ERIC” and let two candidates both claim that he is supporting them.
“Oh, that’s clever, man,” Colbert said with a sarcastic clapping. “He couldn’t decide, so he gave it to both of you. Just like his marriage vows: ‘Therefore, I solemnly pledge my full and complete allegiance to WOMEN.’ “
Finally, the host joked that Trump “could have endorsed any Eric, except one…” before uploading a photo of the former president’s son.
