Stranger Things Fan Creates an Upside Down Vecna Dress
“Strange Things” wearing prosthetic limbs and Jamie Campbell BowerActorthe actors behind season fournew the villain Vecna, worthy props to take off such a complicated outfit. With a face resembling the illustration from a biology textbook, the supernatural entity is very strange, to say the least, with its humanoid form, skull face, and tentacles. For some viewers, Vecna has been an inspiration for Halloween costume ideas.
“I’ve read quite a few comments about Vecna attending the Met Gala wearing this outfit, and I really want to see it.”
Take it Elien, aka Lie for example. As a full-time costume creator and cosplayer from Germany, Lie decided to create an Upside Down-themed dress that matched an avant-garde runway. After finishing the first half of season four and spotting a video of Bower in full costume TwitterLie, who has been sewing since the age of 14, quickly began piecing together bubble wrap and recycled plastic to create an equally haunting look.
“[The show’s writers] shared a behind-the-scenes photo and said they built large portions of the Upside Down set using pool noodles, bubble wrap and the like,” Lie told POPSUGAR. A friend of mine just moved in and has a bunch of leftover plastic. and bubble wrap, so I thought, “Wait, I can turn this into a dress.”
To start, Lie fabricated the bodice from a thermoplastic model-making material called Worbla. She then used various sheets of plastic, bubble wrap, wire, and various hot glues to create “vines” that ran along the skirt’s skirt.
“Paining the dress was definitely the hardest and most frustrating part, simply because the dress was so big,” she said, adding that she used acrylic paint and wood glue to turn the dress into a rusty, plum red. and bright red. “I couldn’t use any spray paint, so I had to paint it all by hand using just a brush.”

After just two weeks of construction, Lie finished the dress – and a pair of matching shoes – ahead of season two of season four, which received rave reviews from “Stranger Things” fans, some of whom asked to order their own . “I read quite a lot Comments on Vecna Lie said.
Although the design is quite comfortable, Lie says the lapel is quite stiff, making it impossible to sit while wearing the suit. For now, she’s happy to keep the dress in her closet, adding that it’s difficult to bring it to a cosplay convention anyway. “It’s like a giant sculpture that can be worn and I can’t fold it or put it in a suitcase, so I haven’t found a good way to properly transport it,” she explains.
As thousands of followers marvel at the intricate details of the dress, Lie is planning her next project influenced by “Lord of the Rings”: a high fashion dress Eye of Sauron inspired level with a train of chiffon fire.
