It’s clearly not a good idea for WBO welterweight champion Crawford (38-0.29 KOs) as there’s no guarantee that what’s to come will be better than this.
As for Crawford, 35, who may have burned his bridge in his big fight with Errol Spence Jr by abandoning negotiations with the recent undefeated IBF/WBA/WBC welterweight champ to go on against Avanesyan (29-3-1, 17 KOs) instead.
If Crawford believes that bigger and better things lie ahead of him after this war, he may be delusional because his future may involve similar wars instead. His resistance increased.
“Avanesyan has everything to gain and nothing to lose. I know he’s bringing everything back on December 10, so I’m not going to ignore him,” Crawford said.
Avanesyan really has everything to gain in this fight because it’s his first and likely last chance to fight for a world title.
Had Avanesyan not been selected as Crawford’s opponent, he would not have received this hit. He wasn’t young enough at 34 to advance to a mandatory spot with the WBO, and his opposition was too poor for him to be promoted to No.
“This is going to be the best Avanesyan, so I have to be the best Terence Crawford. I’m motivated to perform for my fans in Omaha. He’s on a good winning streak,” Crawford said.
It’s fair to say that if Crawford hadn’t fired on all eight cylinders by Saturday night, he would have tasted the canvas at some point and found himself in a real dogfight because Avanesyan can punch, and he’ll try to get Terence’s head. Turn off.
Crawford has good skill, but his ability to take penalties is not extraordinary. He’s been injured by punchers weaker than Avanesyan.
“My goal is to remind the world that I am the best boxer on the planet. I’m fighting not only to be the best but to give the fighters fair and equal treatment in future negotiations,” Crawford said.
