At some point next year, Korean luxury carmaker Genesis will have three electric models in its neat lineup. The strong style GV60 The small crossover appeared last year and an electrified version of the excellent GV70 Compact crossovers coming soon. But maybe crossovers aren’t your thing. Unlike the GV60, a standalone EV model, the G80 Electrified is a battery-powered version of the impressive G80, equipped with a 4-cylinder gasoline engine or a V6. There’s a bit of bad news ahead: the G80 Electrified isn’t available everywhere. Plus in a moment.
Unlike the regular G80, which is available in three trim levels with prices starting from around $50,000 to around $66,000, the Electrified is only offered in a single, unnamed, very well-equipped version. . Power comes from a pair of electric motors that combine to produce 365 horsepower. The standard and single battery has a reported capacity of 87.2 kWh, which matches the EPA’s estimated driving range of 282 miles. And, if you have access to high-speed public charging, the G80 Electrified battery can be switched from 10 percent charge to 80 percent charge in just 22 minutes.
On the road, the G80 Electrified feels the same as the regular G80, although some testers claim that the weight of the battery can be felt during sharp cornering, contributing to more roll and response when cornering. crab slow down. The cabin, like that of all Genesis models, compares favorably with those of Bentleys and Rolls Royces. The interior of the G0 Electrified is rich with premium materials and modern-feeling design. The Digital Interface includes a 14.5-inch touchscreen as well as physical controls for the most frequently used systems. We were impressed by the touch screen graphics that were both clear and humorous, the rotating icons rendered in a classy sepia color.
Like many high-end midsize sedans, especially those from BMW and Mercedes-Benz, the Electrified’s front door is a bit small for large and tall people, but still has plenty of room for occupants.

One compromise that the G80 Electrified requires from customers is to reduce trunk space. Since the G80 was originally designed to support an electric powertrain, space had to be made to accommodate the battery. Some of that space comes at the expense of trunk volume, which in the case of the G80 Electrified comes in at 10.8 cubic feet, down from 13.1 cubic feet in the gas-powered G80. For affluent shoppers looking for an economical way to go electric, the G80 Electrified is on your must-drive list. Here’s the problem: At least initially, Genesis will only offer vehicles in Arizona, California, New Jersey, New York State, Vermont, and Washington State. We expect to see wider availability soon, but Genesis has no plans for future distribution yet. However, if you can get your hands on a G80 Electrified, you’ve scored yourself an exceptionally capable and refreshingly underrated EV.
