Testing Rolls-Royce Specter EV 2024 enters a new phase

It seems to fit perfectly Rolls royce car will check all its upcoming electricity The spectre major tourist house on the French Riviera.

After end of winter testing in Sweden earlier this year, Rolls-Royce is continuing its Specter EV development program in the south of France ahead of its launch in the fourth quarter of 2023.

The Rolls-Royce Specter is the automaker’s first production electric vehicle (EV) and represents the beginning of Rolls-Royce’s transition to a electricity-only scope by 2030.

Said to be the spiritual successor to the Phantom Coupé, the Specter two-door coupe is built on Rolls-Royce’s new ‘Architecture of Luxury’ aluminum, which also underpins the present. ghost, Ghost and Cullinan.

Rolls Royce says the Specter is 30% stiffer than its existing vehicles due to the integration of the battery into the aluminum spaceframe architecture.

It also has a pillarless car door nearly 1.5 meters long, the longest in Rolls-Royce history.

Rolls-Royce says a total of 625,000 km will be driven on and around France’s Côte d’Azur, forming “a key part” of Specter’s 2.5 million km global test programme.

This second stage of development is split into two parts, with the first taking place at the Autodrome de Miramas demonstration site.

During this first phase, the Specter will be tested on “demanding processing circuits with tight corners and adverse cameras”, as well as on a 5km high-speed track.

Rolls-Royce will also be testing and “tweaking” a new suspension technology for the Specter, which seems to ensure the all-electric large car delivers the “walking on the magic carpet” mark.

The second phase includes testing in the Provençal countryside around the Autodrome de Miramas proving ground.

Rolls-Royce admits that “this area is very popular with many of the brand’s customers”.

After “rigorous” wind tunnel testing, digital modeling and high-speed testing, Rolls-Royce reduced the Specter’s towing performance by 0.25. Previously it was 0.26.

This is also partly thanks to the aerodynamically designed Spirit of Ecstasy bonnet decoration.

In terms of design, the Specter will have a split headlight design reminiscent of the Phantom Coupé. This will be the first Rolls-Royce to be fitted with 23-inch wheels since 1926.

Beneath the shell, the Specter has a total of seven kilometers of cables to connect and create more than 1,000 electronic functions and powertrains without the need for centralized processing.

Rolls-Royce also says the Specter has a “sophisticated” electronic roll stabilization system that can separate the anti-roll bars in a straight line, helping to prevent wobbling motion when the vehicle hits a winding road.

On the other hand, when cornering, the suspension stiffens and the four-wheel steering prepares to be activated.

Although the Rolls-Royce Specter will not arrive in the fourth quarter of 2023, the company has has started accepting deposits in Australia.

Rolls-Royce won’t say how many deposits it has received so far, as it traditionally doesn’t like to talk about sales figures.

However, regional sales manager Ian Grant said in January 2021 there is a “welcome” number.

Rolls-Royce is now beginning its journey towards an all-electric future, but is no stranger to electric power.

The co-founder of the original Rolls-Royce Limited, Charles Rolls, has been exploring the possibilities of electric vehicles since the early 20th century.

“The tram is completely noiseless and clean. There were no odors or vibrations, and they would be very useful when stationary charging stations could be arranged,” said Mr Rolls in an interview with Motor-Car Magazine in April 1900.

“But for now, I don’t predict that they will be very available – at least for many years to come.”

After decades of going all-gasoline, Rolls-Royce discovered the EV in 2011 with the Phantom Experimental Electric (aka 120EX), a fully road-legal prototype of the car. an electric Phantom even though it was not produced.

Based on the contemporary Phantom, the 102EX features a pair of electric motors on the rear axle that produce a total of 290kW of power and 800Nm of torque.

Its 0-60mph (0-97km/h) time is said to be under eight seconds, significantly slower than the V12 Phantom’s 5.7-second sprint.

Its biggest downside – and arguably the reason development was halted – is its range, which is only 200km.

Rolls-Royce then launched the Vision Next 100 concept car (aka 130EX) in 2016, again as a test car equipped with an electric powertrain albeit with a unique platform. and autonomous driving technology.
