The best family meal in video games
Assassin’s Creed is known for many things, but it doesn’t often involve tears. However, the pirate using the formula in Black Flag yielded a lot. Probably one of the best pirate games ever made (only happens to some assassins), one of Black Flag’s greatest joys is sailing around with your crew, singing shanties, stop at ports to take down some Royal Navy soldiers and find treasure. Through the game’s narrative, you bring new members to the Jackdaw team and alliance. Finally, you have people like Blackbeard, Charles Vane, Jack Rackham, etc on your team.
But, as any good pirate knows, the golden age can’t last forever, and that’s the crux of Black Flag. This is personified in a heartbreaking scene in the final hours of the game when Edward Kenway is drinking. While it’s not technically a meal, a good drink can be just as appealing as the food. He looked around and saw all the notorious pirates that had accompanied him on his journey across the sea. Then they start to fade…because they’re dead. Edward is drinking with the ghosts of his friends. There is a meal to be remembered for the laughter, the smiles; this, however, is remembered for the heartbreak that Ubisoft used to signify the end of the golden age of piracy.
