Crash test dummies, soon-to-be car robbers and America’s newest cars
Jill and Tom kicked off this week’s program quickly covering a number of topics, including Jill’s take on Toyota’s hybrid vehicle innovation, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) having inadequate use of crash test dummies and Tom’s recent encounter with potential carjackers. Jill also shares her views on the refreshed Volkswagen Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport midsize crossovers for 2024.
In the second segment, Jill and Tom are joined by Cars.com Editor-in-Chief Jennifer Newman. Jennifer shared the fundamentals of the Cars.com U.S. Manufacturing Index 2023. Surprises include the scarcity of American branded products near the top of the list. Jennifer notes that the country of origin of powertrain components, such as a vehicle’s engine and transmission, can have a profound effect on a vehicle’s position on the list. Tesla’s performance on the list is a surprise.
Jennifer opted to join Jill for this week’s test, which focuses on new car sales in the first half of 2023.
