A source at Ahmedabad airport announced that the airport’s main runway was closed for maintenance between 11am and 3pm. In connection with it, NOTAM (Notice to Airline Officers) was issued to the pilots.
SpiceJet flight SG0354 was scheduled to depart at 10:30am, rescheduled for 3pm due to NOTHING. However, due to network problems (congestion at the airport), it was delayed further and it finally took off at around 7pm for Varanasi, he added.
Passengers were upset with SpiceJet staff because they did not receive clear feedback about the flight delay.
Later, security officers and senior airport officials were called in and they stabilized the situation. All passengers have left the airport on the flight.
A senior DGCA official said that they were aware of the situation and that in such cases passengers should be compensated if they claim it as it is within the regulations. They will review if they receive any such complaints.
