Ted Lasso is the mood booster the world needs.
The Apple TV+ series is loved by many people around the world and not just because it’s funny. Jason Sudeikis‘the enduringly cheerful character, Coach Ted Lasso, has succeeded in inspiring those around him, including the pessimistic Roy Kent (Brett Goldstein).
For Sudeikis, it’s a refreshing change from his past characters, like Terrible boss‘Kurt Buckman, who are best described as idiots. “Personally, I don’t want to play tricks or use our time and scripts to personify an asshole – it’s done,” Sudeikis said. Guardians in July 2021. “Ted, the character: he’s looking for the best parts of life.”
And while Sudeikis’ character isn’t unique in his positivity—Jack McBrayerKenneth Parcell’s 30 Rock also deserves recognition — audiences and critics clearly resonated with Ted.
Since its premiere in August 2020, the series has won numerous awards, including Outstanding Comedy Series and multiple acting awards at the 2021 Emmys. Its second season was similarly successful, receiving 20 nominations for the upcoming Emmy Awards 2022.
