Toledo, Russell defend title at Pimlico .’s Preakness meet

Jockey Jevian Toledo and the coach Brittany Russel defended their titles as top jockey and coach respectively as the Preakness Encounter at Pimlico Racecourse concluded on Sunday.

Toledo, who ranked second in earnings behind only GI Preakness winner S. John Velazquez, finished with a comfortable 10-match margin over fellow runners-up Sheldon Russell, Horacio Karamanos and Victor Carrasco. Both Toledo and Russell are represented by Marty Leonard.

“It feels great. I’m so lucky that God has given me good health to be here,” Toledo said. the trainers and owners who gave them the opportunity to ride. I really appreciate all the help that I have received during this meeting.”

Russell finished with 15 wins from 42 starts and $592,630 in earnings, second only to GI Preakness S. award-winning coach Bob Baffert.

This is the fourth coaching title for Russell, who led Laurel’s spring and fall 2022 stands and took first place at last year’s Preakness Meet.
